Poloniny National Park, which is the easternmost Slovak national park, was added to the network of Slovak national parks in 1997. Poloniny is located on the Slovak-Polish-Ukrainian border and is immediately adjacent to the Polish Bieszczady National Park and the Ukrainian Užan National Park.
A jewel among churches - the wooden Church of St. St. Nicholas is one of the oldest and most beautiful wooden churches in Slovakia. The three-part log building with a richly ornamented shingled roof and three towers was built in 1658. In 2008 it was entered in the UNESCO World Heritage List together with seven other wooden churches from the area of Slovak Carpathians.
The whole world admires the beautiful opals from Slovak opal mines located in eastern Slovakia between the villages of Červenica and Zlatá Baňa.
